Introducing: Fit Phone Runner

Fit Phone Runner is the latest edition to the Fit Phone Live suite of fitness applications. By combining the power of Fit Phone's cardio tracking and Apple's Game Center, we have an exciting new way for people to enjoy running. Tracking a run couldn't be easier. Just tap the '+' on the calendar and Fit Phone Runner will determine your current location. Once we have your location you're ready to go. As you run, your time, pace, and distance will all be shown as well as your current location on a map. Every mile (or kilometer if you prefer) your progress will be announced. When you're all done you're ready to submit your run to Game Center to see how you stack up against everyone else.

Explore the sections below to find everything you need to know about Fit Phone Runner.

The Basics

At its core, Fit Phone Runner is a run tracker for the iPhone. It's simple to use and it simply works. But when you dig a little deeper there's much more going on. Fit Phone Runner doesn't just track your runs and let you look at results. It lets you share your runs using Apple's Game Center. All you need is a free Apple Game Center account and you can upload your daily miles, time, and pace to leaderboards shared by Fit Phone Runner users around the world.

When you first start Fit Phone Runner it will attempt to login to Game Center. If this is your first time using the app you will have to enter your information. If you don't have an account we highly suggest you create one. It's free and handled by Apple so you don't have to worry about giving any information to us. We don't want your info anyway. This is the same Game Center account you will use for all of the other Game Center enabled apps out there. Once created, you get all of the same great features like connecting with your friends so you can see what they've been playing.

To get the most out of Fit Phone Runner, you will want to connect with your friends through your Game Center account. When you have friends in Game Center you can see all of their high scores separated out from the masses. This is nice in Fit Phone Runner because once you start uploading runs you can easily compare your runs with those of your friends.

Game Center Leaderboards

When you're done tracking your run simply tap the icon on the tracking page. This will submit your miles, time, and pace to the Fit Phone Runner leaderboards.

Everything we submit is based on the current day. Due to the way Game Center works you will not be able to submit a run for any day except the current day. This is due to us not being able to modify the actual date that gets submitted to Game Center. So if you want to submit a run make sure you submit it the same day you ran or you won't be able to submit it. For display purposes on leaderboards a DAY is defined by a 24 hour period. So if you submit a score at 7pm, that score will be good until 7pm the next day.

Game Center Achievements

Fit Phone Runner tries it's best to keep you motivated by offering a number of achievements that you can earn when your runs meet certain milestones. As long as you're logged into Game Center and upload your runs to Game Center, Fit Phone Runner will track your achievements. You will be notified each time you earn an achievement. Below are examples of a few achievements you can earn in Fit Phone Runner:

First 5K - Run 5k(3.1 miles) straight
Run more than once in a day
Run after 7pm

There are many more achievements you can earn and you can see them all by tapping the Awards button in Fit Phone Runner.

Results Graphs

Fit Phone Runner allows you to graphically view your results. To do so simply tap the data tab and then tap the graph entry to display the Fit Phone Runner Graphs.

The default view is a graph of all your different paces. You can change the type of graph by tapping the Options button in the top right of the display. You can select from the following types of graphs:

  • Pace
  • Distance
  • Duration
  • Mood

You can further narrow down your graphs by setting a date filter and/or a run type filter. By setting these filters the graph will only display runs that are of a certain type or after a certain date.

Backing Up Your Data

With all the talk we do of the Game Center features in Fit Phone Runner nothing is more important to us than your data. We want every user to trust that the data you accumulate in Fit Phone Runner will be around forever. To accomplish this we provide several ways for you to backup all of your Fit Phone Runner data. In Fit Phone Runner go to the data tab and then select the Backup/Restore Data option.

Facebook Sync

The simplest and most flexible option is to use your facebook account. This option will have you login with your already existing facebook account. We do not store any of your facebook information except for the random user ID that facebook assigns to you. This ID is unique to you so we use it to store your data on our servers guaranteeing that you will be the only one able to save and retrieve data from that location. By using this option you can easily move data between different devices. Simply perform a facebook backup on one device. If you want your data on another device perform a facebook restore using the same account on that device and you will have all of your Fit Phone Runner data downloaded from our servers.

iTunes File Sharing

The other option that you can use is the file sharing option available through iTunes. Connect your device to your computer and select it in iTunes. If you open the Apps tab and scroll towards the bottom you should see a section for File Sharing. If you select Fit Phone Runner you will see all of the data Fit Phone Runner stores. Through iTunes you can save any of the files to your computer. You can also move previously saved files into Fit Phone Runner by dragging and dropping them into that File Sharing box.
